Today was the last day of the theme on Global Health. I'm sure the speakers this morning and this afternoon were excellent. In fact, I heard that they were. But in the interest of pacing myself, I elected not to attend either. I don't have anymore room in my head to be inspired this week!
So I went to my choir practice this morning dressed in my workout clothes. The nice thing about choir robes is that no one in the congregation was any wiser. After we sang and were dismissed, I rode my bike to the gym and worked out. It felt great! The sun was out today and the jackets came off. Glorious day for a bike ride.
Home to a shower and clean clothes, and then I left for Wegmans in Jamestown. My reasoning, besides the obvious "out of toilet paper" reason that tends to supercede all other reasons, was that on this holiday weekend, it would be a lot less crowded at Wegmans than it will be tomorrow on Saturday when all the Week 2 people are arriving. Boy was I wrong! What I hadn't counted on was the fact that on this very day, appearing at Wegmans was. . . . . . the actually Wegman family! Apparently they travel all around the country visiting Wegman stores. Well, being there was very much like being in the DC area during rush hour! Carts lined up in every aisle. Lots of gridlock as people waited while other people moved. It was amazing. I guess in a Wegman's store, the Wegman's are famous people! I'm not sure I was ever sure I was seeing a Wegman. . . I was too busy looking for toilet paper! The good news is that in the parking lot, before going into the store, I finally made phone contact with Ed the builder, and we discussed my window and door selections in detail. Always fun to participate in renovation decisions in a parking lot!
After unloading the groceries (two trips from the parking lot), I took the opportunity to check out another apartment for possible rental next year. A smaller, but much less expensive unit than I currently have. My apartment this summer could not be any better in all respects except that I don't think I want to spend this much money next summer. However, as I sit on my porch right now and see the loooooooong line forming right outside my front door for the Steve Martin appearance tonight, I'm reminded just how central is this location. I'm in the middle of all the action. If the amp is too crowded for the performance, I can listen to Steve playing his banjo from right where I sit now.
So to recap. . . . .played hooky from everything Chautauqua today (including choir tonight. . . which we're allowed to miss once per week). Pacing myself.
And Wegman Family and Steve Martin. . . . .famous people. It certainly isn't blah around here!
